Yes, it is time a gain for the Clovis-Portales Marathon! We hope you will join us at the JavaLoft on Saturday, 8/14 starting at about 10 am. If you have some writing you are working on (Like maybe something for the e-zine!), bring it along. If you don’t have anything you are working on at the moment, we will have some ideas to get you started!

Clovis/Portales May Marathon
Please join us on Saturday, May 8th at the Java Loft in Clovis for the next writing marathon. We will meet at 10 am. We always have a wonderful time and get some decent writing done! Hope to see some of you there!
Clovis/Portales Marathon
Five of us gathered on Saturday at the Java Loft to write. We seemed more focused this month than some. We wrote to three different prompts: words we could form from letter tiles we were given, the sayings inside a piece of Dove chocolate and a quote about voices making the moment.
These marathons are really important to those of us who meet regularly (which is all of us who were there). As writers we need sometimes to be forced to write. We hope that some of you will decide to join us soon!
The next marathon is scheduled for Saturday, May 8, at Java Loft in Clovis. We will start about 10 am. Hope to see you there!
Won’t you join us?
We will be having our next Clovis/Portales area writing marathon this coming Saturday, April 10th. We will meet at the Java Loft in Clovis at 10 am. We would love yo have you join us!
Next Clovis/Portales Writing Marathon
The next marathon in the Clovis/Portales area will be held next Saturday, January 9. We will meet at The Java Loft in Clovis at 10:00 am and will write for a couple hours before moving on have lunch together somewhere. We hope that you will join us!
Clovis/Portales December Marathon
Due to some scheduling conflicts, the monthly writing marathon was moved to December 19th. We had a wonderful morning writing. Dee prepared a list of prompts — places, foods, colors, sounds, smells, etc. — and we took off writing. It was a lot of fun! We hope you will make plans to join us on the 2nd Saturday of January for more writing!
Clovis/Portales Marathon October 10
We had another wonderful writing adventure on Saturday at the Java Loft in Clovis. It was another small group, but we had a great time!
We wrote again to prompts from Natalie Goldberg’s Old Friend from Far Away. We did 3-minute writes on the following:
- a time I was in trouble in class
- how I first learned to read
- how to do something (We had to teach someone something, not talk about teaching.)
- how I feel about math
- details about an uncle or a grandfather
Our “homework” is to expand one of these writes.
We invite anyone who is interested to join us on November 14 at 10am at the Java Loft in Clovis for the next writing marathon. I guarantee you will have a good time!
Clovis/Portales Marathon
I can’t believe it has been a week already since the marathon! There were four of us, and we did a neat series of quickwrites from Natalie Goldberg’s Old Friend from Far Away. These were 3-minute rememberings. It was amazing what we could remember in such a short period of time. Fo the next marathon October 10, we ae supposed to bring one of these quickwrites expanded in some way.
If you would like to try this with us, these were the prompts:
- a memory of your mother, grandmother or aunt
- a memory of the color red (You weren’t to use the word “red” much — just write about something that is red.)
- a memory of a sound
- a memory of an elementary school teacher
- a memory of a favorite meal
- a memory of rain (It could be something that happened while it was raining. Rain doesn’t have to be the main topic.)
- a list of ten smells
This was really a lot of fun when we did it in the group. I think expanding one of these for next month will be fun, too. If you want to try it and can’t join us at the Java Loft in Clovis on Saturday 10/10 at 10am, why not upload your writing here as a comment?
